Brian Phillip Whalen’s debut collection, Semiotic Love [Stories], was named one of the Best Books of 2021 by Kirkus Reviews. His second book, In Each Breath a Darkness [a memoir], is forthcoming from WTAW Press. His work can be found in The Southern Review, Creative Nonfiction, Lit Hub, Copper Nickel, North American Review, the Flash Nonfiction Food anthology, The Southern Poetry Anthology Vol. IX: Virginia, Poets.org. and elsewhere. Brian has a PhD from the State University of New York at Albany and an MFA from Iowa State University and was offered a residency at the Vermont Studio Center. He teaches creative writing and literature at Mount St. Joseph University, where he’s an Assistant Professor of English. He lives east of Cincinnati with his wife, daughter, and a dog named Porter.
